ADVERTISMENT - Hobbit Movie News and Rumors - The One Ring

The Cruise to Middle-earth set to begin

November 23, 2008 is when the Celebrity Millennium will set sail with a group of your fellow Ringers for the Cruise to Middle-earth. One set of our Fellowship are already down in New Zealand right now doing a pre-cruise tour as part of the Wizard’s Journey. They are currently in Queenstown and will then transition to Wellington in the next day or two. The rest of us, on the Hobbit’s Journey, will join them this weekend. TORn’s own Tehanu is leading the Wizard’s Journey, showing everyone Rohan and Amon Hen, Rivendell and Ithilien, among other locations. I leave the US tomorrow evening and will make the occasional post from the ship so you will know what our Fellowship is up to. And yes, there will be pictures too.

Andy Serkis eager for Gollum return

The Lord Of The Rings star is to revive his role as the fantasy creature in prequel The Hobbit and despite the hard work involved in playing the part-computer generated character, he is looking forward to it. Andy said: “In 2010, if all goes according to plan, I think they’re gonna start thinking about The Hobbit. “It will be nice to drag Gollum kicking and screaming back out again. It will be great.” The 44-year-old British actor was speaking at the royal premiere of A Bunch Of Amateurs where he had been invited to give the Loyal Address to The Queen. Andy said: “I got asked because my wife Lorraine Ashbourne is in the film so I have to welcome the Royal family and introduce the film.” Andy Serkis eager for Gollum return

TV Watch: Serkis Plays Einstein on the Beeb

Claire writes: UK residents can see Andy Serkis on TV on Saturday 22nd November, on BBC2. He’s playing Albert Einstein, while David Tennant (the present Doctor Who) plays British scientist Arthur Eddington, in the film ‘Einsten and Eddington’. Details of the schedule are here and the BBC’s press notice is here. For those who miss the broadcast on the 22nd, the film may be available on BBC iPlayer for seven days after that date. And as the film is a co-production with HBO, I would expect it to be shown in the USA, though I can’t see anything about it on the HBO website at the moment.

Elijah - Hobbit appearance ‘concievably possible’

Message board member Elven found this interesting tidbit in a piece by the BBC’s “Newsbeat”. Seems Elijah Wood attended the Black Ball in New York, a charity event to raise money for children affected by HIV/Aids in Africa, and was asked about the possibility of an appearance in The Hobbit:

Lord of the Rings star Elijah Wood was there with girlfriend Pamela Racine. When Newsbeat asked about whether he might appear in a Hobbit movie he said that it was “conceivably possible”. Read the entire article Here

Update! Board member Dive Twin found more comments from Elijah at this event on MTV’s Movies Blog:

“The secondary film would bridge the gap between ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘Lord of the Rings’ chronologically,” Wood said, “so conceivably, it could be possible.” Since the films are still being written, “it’s a ways away” before he would know, Wood said, but the trick is to have Frodo’s appearance not seem like an anachronism, since he wasn’t a part of “The Hobbit” adventure. The Rise Of “Tolkienalia”

A recent article in the Sydney Morning Herald discusses how the love of J.R.R. Tolkien’s works has spawned generations of fans who are now avid collectors of all things Tolkien. The continuing fascination has only increased after Peter Jackson’s release of “Lord Of The Rings” in 2001 and the intense interest in Guillermo Del Toro’s upcoming take on “The Hobbit”. Fans have been clamoring for other printed books, maps, manuscripts and photographs related to the author and his works.

Peter S. Beagle 1978 LOTR DVD Sell Off

Ostadan writes: This is from Peter Beagle’s newsletter, TORN people might want to know: Peter S. Beagle wrote the screenplay for the 1978 animated version of THE LORD OF THE RINGS, but for various reasons we’ve never offered the DVD for sale. That seemed kind of silly, so a few weeks ago we decided to order some…and discovered that Warner Brothers Home Video has discontinued the title. Our distributor told us that WB wasn’t sure how many were still in the warehouse. We told them we’d take everything they had. They shipped us 99 copies. Read the rest of this entry »
